Personal Facts:

While milling around Castlelaw Ranges I found a man, Mr Fergus who had a large collection of Russian rifles. He offered to let me look at the various Russian (single shot mind you) weapons ranging to a Mosin-Nagant right up to an AK-74. I spotted something that I immediately wanted to try out on the range, the M1 Garand.

I asked right away if I could try it out, he obliged and supplied me with a magazine and the rounds to load up. I took my place in the firing pit, loaded my rifle (nearly taking my thumb off in the process) and began to fire away. Much to my annoyance each shot required me to pull the charging handle but overall it was an amazing gun. Slighty heavy and with moderate recoil, the rifle easily made the mark on the bullseye from 300M away.

After all 8 shots, I was pleased to hear that "ping" noise as the clip ejected.
